Turning Your Passion Into A Business

Life’s too short! Nothing, not even earning a living should deprive you the opportunity of making the best out of it.
With the high rate of unemployment in Nigeria which keeps increasing by the day, waiting on that white collar job isn’t such a good idea. In the absence of that white collar job, you can be self-employed, and there’s no better way to do that than turning your passion into business.
You’ve already identified your passion; that thing that gives you great satisfaction. But in Nigeria, passion on its own cannot pay your bills and put food on your table. It’s what you do with your passion that generates revenue.
The smart Nigerian develops a business plan that outlines his/her business functions, mode of operation, marketing strategy, source of finance etc. And a good business plan fosters favorable results.
Your passion in its entirety may include certain aspects of things that you are not really good at. In order to achieve good results, you need to delegate responsibilities to other people.
This can be difficult in this part of the world because of the “I can do it all by myself” Nigerian mentality. For example, you may be passionate about fashion, but you aren’t a good fashion designer. Instead of “pushing” yourself to design clothes that even you, wouldn’t want to wear, you could have someone else do the designs while you sell the clothes.
In business, you need patronage. And people can only patronize you when they know about what you do. You need to put your business out there for all to see. It’s a free world, so feel free to tell people about your business and make contact with potential clients.
When passion meets business, magic happens! It’s like making money for the number of hours you spend playing. Yes, when passion calls to work, work becomes play! When you turn your passion into business, you get a lot of work done, without even noticing. So, what are you waiting on?
